Monterey, CA – The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District’s Career Technical Education department is offering a five-day summer program experience June 6 - 10 to 18 students. Students will participate in the program three hours a day at four different locations that include Marina High School, the Monterey Regional Airport, the Salinas Municipal Airport and Joby Aviation at Marina Municipal Airport.
Together with the Joby Aviation education department, the MPUSD CTE team has been exploring areas of intersectionality in support of the increasing labor market needs in the region, and expanding student knowledge of careers in aviation. This pilot program compliments the MPUSD Transportation, Computer Science, and Engineering Design pathways and is one of the first CTE summer programs that MPUSD has offered.
“There are numerous activities competing for students' attention in the summer, and given the program's identified content and learning outcomes this unique opportunity was offered to 11th and 12th grade CTE students with participation based on student interest,” said Lisa Glick, Coordinator, Career Technical Education, Monterey Peninsula Unified School District.
“Our CTE program introduces students to opportunities they may have never dreamed existed,” said PK Diffenbaugh, Superintendent, Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. “It is an honor to participate in this partnership with Joby, and I am especially appreciative of our team for going the extra mile to identify this outstanding learning experience.”
