MPUSD and Seaside High School to Host Special Olympics Schools Partnership Program Track and Field Day

Approximately 500 student athletes from across the county to participate

FRIDAY, May 10, 2024

WHAT: Approximately 500 student athletes with exceptional needs and a handful of general education students will converge on the Seaside High School stadium field to participate in the Special Olympics Schools Partnership Program Track and Field Day.

 

Schools represented include:

 

Elementary Schools - Crumpton Elementary School, Del Rey Woods Elementary School, Marina Vista Elementary Arts Academy, Olson Elementary School, Ord Terrace Elementary School (Monterey Peninsula Unified School District); San Vicente Elementary School and Frank Ledesma Elementary School (Soledad Unified School District), Tularcitos Elementary School (Carmel Unified School District), King City Elementary School (King City Union School District). 

 

Middle Schools - Los Arboles Middle School, Seaside Middle School (Monterey Peninsula Unified School District); Carmel Middle School (Carmel Unified School District); North Monterey County Middle School (North Monterey Unified School District); Main Street Middle School (Soledad Unified School District), Washington Middle School (Salinas City School District), King City Middle School (King City Union School District)

 

High Schools - Marina High School, Seaside High School (Monterey Peninsula Unified School District); Greenfield High School (South Monterey County Joint Union High School); North Monterey County High School (North Monterey Unified School District); Soledad High School (Soledad Unified School District); and Salinas High School (Salinas Union High School District) 

 

Adult Transition Programs from Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, Pacific Grove Unified School District, and Soledad Unified School District.

 

Partnering entities, including host Seaside High School, will provide 40 volunteers to assist and encourage athletes, including high school students with exceptional needs, students from the STEPS Club at Seaside High School and the statewide championship Monterey High School boys basketball team.

  

WHEN: Friday, May 10, 2024 | 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

  • 9:30 a.m. | Students arrive
  • 9:45 a.m. | Parade lineup
  • 10:00 a.m. | Opening Ceremonies
  • 10:30 a.m. | Mile runners
  • 11:00 a.m. | 400 runners
  • 11:15 a.m. | Other competitions - 100 m, 50 m, throwing, jumping
  • 11:30 a.m. | Wheelchair races
  • 12:15 - 12:30 p.m. | Conclusion
