Largest School District on the Peninsula to Graduate More Than 700 Seniors

Many graduates headed to colleges and universities across the country

Monterey, CA – The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District will graduate more than 700 seniors on Friday, June 3, 2022 at the Monterey County Fair and Event Center. Despite a global pandemic that thwarted full graduation activities in 2020 and 2021, MPUSD was still able to offer modified in-person graduation ceremonies for students. This year will be the first time the district and its schools fully open the ceremonies to families without strict requirements.

MPUSD has followed the California Department of Public Health guidelines throughout the pandemic. All ceremonies will be held outdoors and while not required, MPUSD will strongly recommend facial coverings.

“We were fortunate to partner with WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in 2020 and the Monterey County Fair and Event Center in 2021 so our graduates were able to celebrate their accomplishments,” said PK Diffenbaugh, Superintendent, Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. “The events went so smooth that we are back again at the fairgrounds and at full capacity.”

MPUSD boasts a high graduation rate of 93.5%, nearly 6% higher than the state (87.7%) and 7% higher than the county (86.2%) averages. “We are extremely proud of our Classes of 2022. They have overcome great adversity studying through Distance Learning for part of their sophomore year and their entire junior year,” continued Diffenbuagh. “Caps off to them for displaying grit and determination the past two years.”

A dozen MPUSD students also completed their Associate Arts (AA) degrees or IGETC via Monterey Peninsula College Dual Enrollment Program. Learn more here.
