The City designed the crossing improvements in conjunction with the Monterey Unified School District frontage improvements at Ord Terrace Elementary School. The city’s project constructed a bulb out, two accessible curb ramps and a median refuge island for an offset lighted crosswalk on La Salle Avenue at Lindberg Court, installed flexible delineators, striping and associated signage. The city project was awarded June 1, 2023, construction commenced at the end of June 2023, and was completed in mid August 2023. The total project cost to the city was $299,179.80 and the construction contract was $158,417. Both the city and school district invested in the project, and the school district project was separate from the City of Seaside's project.

“This new crossing improvement project has been beneficial for student safety and the flow of traffic for drop off and pick up,” said Joe Sampson, Principal, Ord Terrace Elementary School. “We appreciate our partnership with the City of Seaside to enhance the infrastructure and prioritization of our students.”
