WHAT: In a record-breaking celebration of inclusion, athletics, and community, nearly 1,000 student athletes with exceptional needs, along with their general education peer partners, will participate in the Special Olympics Northern California Schools Partnership Program Track and Field Day.
This year’s event marks a major milestone:
- The largest Track and Field Day since the program's inception in Monterey County.
- The first time since before COVID-19 that the event will return to the Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) track and field facilities.
- Double the number of student athletes compared to the 2024 event.
Schools from across Monterey County will be represented, spanning elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as adult transition programs.
Athletes will compete in a variety of events, including sprints, distance runs, wheelchair races, throwing and jumping competitions, cheered on by classmates, teachers, families, and many school and community volunteers.
"This inspiring day showcases the power of unified sports, bringing together students of all abilities to build teamwork, confidence, and lasting memories," said Katie Rivera, Assistant Superintendent, Special Education, Monterey Peninsula Unified School District.
