Seaside High School to dedicate new stadium 

after long-serving, popular coaches 

 

Seaside, CA - Seaside High School will host a dedication ceremony on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. at Seaside High School stadium to name its stadium after long-time coaches. The Avila Gray Stadium will be named in honor of Andy Gray, a teacher, athletic director and coach for football, golf, wrestling, softball and track and field and Alfred Avila, the longest-tenured coach for the school and Monterey County.

 

The community and media are invited to attend the naming dedication ceremony during intermission between the junior varsity and varsity football games against Soquel High School on newly named Avila Gray Stadium located on the Seaside High School campus.

 

A brief ceremony announcing the dedication and unveiling of the plaque/signage will take place at 1:30 p.m.

About Andy Gray

Andy Gray is a legend of Seaside High School. Coach Gray spent nearly 50 years dedicating his time and energy at Seaside High School as a teacher, athletic director and coach for football, golf, wrestling, softball and track and field. Coach Gray has always filled whatever need has arisen at Seaside High School through the years out of an extreme love, dedication and desire to see all students be successful. He has been a favorite of students across the decades and a mentor to countless adults with his love and passion. 


About Alfred Avila

Alfred Avila is a fixture and role model at Seaside High School where he has served as a football coach since 1984. He also served as the school’s liaison and a popular teacher. His love and passion for students is evident everyday through his energy and desire to positively impact the lives of all students through the motto “Family Forever” which can be seen in pictures posted in his classroom that spread across decades. Coach Avila is the longest tenured coach in Monterey County and has been the coach of the year seven times, league coach of the year nine times, CIF coach of the year and coach of the decade in Monterey County in 2010. This year Seaside High celebrates his 31st year as the head coach.
