Seaside High School to name new MakerSpace after prominent community member and former Board of Education member Helen B. Rucker

 

Seaside, CA - Seaside High School will host a dedication ceremony on Saturday, December 17 at 11 a.m. at Seaside High School located at 2200 Noche Buena Street in Seaside to name the new MakerSpace in honor of long-time community member and former Monterey Peninsula Unified School District Board of Education member Helen B. Rucker.

 

The MakerSpace will be formally named the Helen B. Rucker Learning Center

 

The community and media are invited to attend.

11:00 a.m. Seaside High MakerSpace Dedication Honoring Helen B. Rucker

About Helen B. Rucker


Helen B. Rucker is a pillar of the Seaside community, whose career as a teacher, librarian and community activist. Mrs. Rucker’s legacy continues to this day as she has been instrumental in creating a scholarship in her husband's name that has helped students attend college for almost 20 years in addition to her advocacy for social justice and the rights of all. Ms. Rucker is committed to civil rights issues, voter registration, and tutoring and mentoring youth. In 2008, she founded the Seaside Voter Education Center, where she registers voters and educates them on important issues in the community. She is also a longstanding member of and leader in the Monterey County NAACP.
