Monterey Peninsula Unified School District Selected to Receive Prestigious Statewide LEAD Award

Monterey Peninsula Unified School District (MPUSD) has been selected to receive the Latina/o Educational Advancement and Distinction (LEAD) Award from the California Latino School Boards Association (CLSBA), recognizing the district's commitment to expanding opportunities and improving outcomes for all students.
The prestigious statewide award will be presented during the CLSBA Unity 2026 Conference, held August 27-29, where school districts from across California gather to celebrate excellence and innovation in public education.
The LEAD Award recognizes school districts that demonstrate outstanding leadership and a commitment to educational excellence, equity, and student achievement while creating opportunities that empower students to succeed in college, careers, and life.
"This recognition reflects the incredible dedication of our Board of Education, employees, students, families, and community partners who work together every day to create opportunities for every learner," said Superintendent PK Diffenbaugh. "We are honored to receive this statewide recognition and remain committed to ensuring every student has access to the programs, supports, and experiences they need to thrive."
Over the past several years, MPUSD has expanded access to rigorous academic programs, career technical education pathways, dual enrollment opportunities, multilingual education, student wellness supports, and innovative learning experiences designed to prepare students for success after graduation. The district continues to focus on removing barriers, increasing achievement, and ensuring every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
The California Latino School Boards Association will honor MPUSD during a general session at the Unity 2026 Conference in late August. The organization will announce the district's award presentation date in the coming weeks.
MPUSD thanks the California Latino School Boards Association for this distinguished recognition and congratulates the students, employees, families, Board of Education, and community whose collective efforts made this achievement possible.
