Adapted Physical Education

The MPUSD Adapted Physical Education (APE) department provides inclusive, equitable, and individualized physical education programs for students with diverse abilities. Our program ensures that all students, regardless of physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges, have the opportunity to participate in physical activities that promote fitness, motor skills development, social interaction, and overall well-being. We work to provide a supportive, safe, and enriching environment where every student has the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of physical education.

  1. Inclusion: Ensuring that students with disabilities or special needs can participate alongside their peers in physical education classes whenever possible, with necessary modifications or accommodations.

  2. Individualized Education: Tailoring activities to meet the specific needs, abilities, and goals of each student, which may involve adapted equipment, modified rules, or personalized instruction.

  3. Skill Development: Helping students develop motor skills, coordination, strength, and physical fitness, with an emphasis on progress over competition.

  4. Social Integration: Promoting teamwork, communication, and social skills through collaborative activities, ensuring students develop positive social interactions and self-confidence.

  5. Health and Well-being: Encouraging lifelong habits of physical activity to improve both physical and mental health, regardless of ability levels.

  6. Empowerment: Building students' confidence, self-esteem, and independence through physical activity, fostering a sense of accomplishment and capability.

We look forward to supporting your athletic and physical fitness journey!
