Vision 2025+ Update: Message to Families

This message was sent to MPUSD families via ParentSquare on January 15, 2020.

MPUSD Families,

We hope 2020 is off to a great start and your student(s) is enjoying being back on campus.

You may have seen in recent news reports about the district’s declining enrollment over the next five years and the impact on funding. The district established the Vision 2025+ Task Force in August 2019 to plan ahead and look at options to maintain the district’s fiscal stability in the coming years.

We want to provide an update on MPUSD’s Vision 2025+ Task Force recommendations and the progress to date. The Task Force convened last fall, developed recommendations on different learning models for our elementary and middle schools (e.g., Transitional Kindergarten - 6, Transitional Kindergarten - 8, 7th/8th middle schools), and district staff has been in the community hosting meetings since November providing transparency and soliciting stakeholder feedback, including administering an online survey.

Our Board of Education met last evening to receive information from the 15 stakeholder engagement meetings and survey. At this time no decisions have been made on a particular learning model or about any school consolidations. The district will continue engaging the community to gather additional input. Meeting dates, times and locations will be announced early next week.

If you would like to learn more about Vision 2025+ please visit www.mpusd.net/vision2025/ - previous PowerPoint presentations may be found on this page. Additionally, the presentations from last night’s Board meeting may be reviewed in English or Spanish.

Again, no decisions have been made. We are still in the community engagement and exploratory/planning phases. We are committed to keeping families, staff and community members informed throughout the process. When and if any decisions are made, families and staff will be communicated with, and have time to plan for any upcoming changes.

Thank you for your confidence in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District and your student’s school.
