Senior | Marina High School

Valeria Esparza is proud to be a Marina High School Mariner. “I really like Marina High School. It is a really small community. When you talk to teachers you’re not just another student - you really know them,” she says.

Her four years at MaHS have been a very experience. “The teachers are very nice to you … they’ll teach you one on one … they’ll really go deep into their subject. They’ll help you at lunch and they are always there,” Valeria states. She gives kudos to the teaching staff at MaHS and gives special kudos to Ms. Amador and Ms. Cano.

Valeria has been involved in leadership since sophomore year serving as class president in both her sophomore and junior years, and this year as Associated Student Body president and even student board representative on the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District Board of Education. She is active on the school’s softball team, and a member of the Key Club.

Following high school, Valeria will attend Monterey Peninsula College and hopes to participate in the college’s marine biology program. She has had a love of animals since second grade and enjoys visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the San Francisco Academy of Sciences.

In her spare time, Valeria explores her creative side enjoying such hobbies as crocheting, ceramics, and baking. She even wants to start a crocheting club on the Marina High campus.

Her love of Marina High runs deep and she wants peers and those in our middle schools who will attend MaHS in the future that while grades really do depend on everything, it doesn’t define the type of person you are. She encourages others by stating, “Don’t be afraid to be yourself. Show school spirit.”
