Saturday Academy: Important Updates for Families

We love seeing our students everyday and each day your student attends school matters to their development. When students miss school they lose valuable instructional hours and miss social connections with their teachers and peers. We know life happens and absences will occur for illness or other circumstances.  

To address absences, MPUSD offers Saturday Academy. Beginning in the 2025 - 2026 school year, a new California state law requires that a student’s attendance record must continue to show the original absence for state reporting purposes even if the student attends Saturday Academy.

Saturday Academy is still a wonderful opportunity for your child and will still be documented in the school information system. High School students that attend and have NO ALL-DAY absences will get 3 period recoveries. 

Here’s why families and students love it:

✅ Prevents truancy letters and interventions: Even though the absence stays on the state report, your child’s participation positively impacts MPUSD’s internal records and can help prevent third and fourth truancy notifications.

✅ Extra Learning: They receive four (4) hours of instruction from a credentialed teacher.

✅ Catch Up and Get Ahead: Time for focused support with schoolwork and subjects.

✅ Enrichment Variety: Each Saturday activities differs depending on school site.

✅ Meals Provided: Students enjoy food while they learn.
