  1. PUBLIC COMMENT

    Minutes:
Trish Ramirez, Math Teacher at Monterey High, spoke regarding the math curriculum and the need for math textbooks. The school is not providing any materials to students and refer students to websites. Teachers are trying their best but it is really difficult.

Dr. Jon Hill, Monterey citizen (speaking as a citizen and not a member of the Board), spoke regarding a proposal for an aquatic center for this region. Dr. Hill presented the first draft of an application to be submitted to the Neighborhood Improvement Association to cover cost for a feasibility study for an aquatic center.

Elizabeth Desamoni, Math Teacher at Monterey High, spoke regarding the lack of textbooks and materials. Accessing the units of study on the google drive is difficult and the material is more of supplemental material than teaching material.  It looks very unprofessional when parents call to ask for the curriculum and teachers have to refer them to search for it on google. Units of study have run its course and there is a need to adopt a textbook.

Tom Grych, on behalf of Elizabeth Scott, Math Teacher at Seaside High, stated that Carnegie curriculum was never used properly and went straight to Units of Study. A list of random resources is not a curriculum and leaves the district in violation of the Williams Act. Carnegie Curriculum is not perfect but it helps students see connections between topics. Spending the majority of time making copies instead of preparing lessons.

Tom Grych, MBTA President, attending a labor and management workshop. Really enjoyed the workshop and looking forward to working with the District.

Roselyn Green, MPUSD parent, concerned students don't have textbooks and hopes the district can come up with a solution. Also, voiced concerned for MHS Basketball program. Basketball was deprived from their own Senior Night because of the cancelation of the game against Alisal. Hopes district admin can get behind basketball team and make something happen for them.

Hellen Rucker, Seaside Resident, spoke regarding the Panetta Institute Talks. Invited Board and students to attend different sessions and the great speakers who will be featured.

Ruthie Watts, Seaside Resident, thanked the Superintendent and board members for attending the Scholar Awards. Invited the board and superintendent to attend the Black History program.  Stated she was appalled that the District does not have textbooks for students. Hopes the district can provide textbooks to all students.
