- PUBLIC COMMENT
Minutes:
CSEA Member and Behavior Technician at Seaside High School Erin Stabler informed the Board that CSEA President Jesse Tamayo wanted to be present for the meeting but had a previous engagement. CSEA members invited the Board and the Superintendent to their CSEA Annual Celebration on May 23rd.
Judy Karas, long time MPUSD sub, spoke regarding peer counseling at school sites.
Marina High School student Andrew Perez spoke in support of the School Resource Officer program and Art Program.
Marina High School student Drake Johnson apologized for the aggressiveness of their message in support of School Resource Officers at the last Board meeting but feels the message served the purpose because the students received more responses. Drake requested the Board look into having a town hall meeting with each community to see each community's needs of School Resource Officers as learning communities may not have the same needs.
Jesse Perez, concerned community member recognized Dr. PK Diffenbaugh, Cresta McIntosh and Rita Burks for their incredible efforts in handling a difficult situation by having a meeting on Monday with a situation that is currently taking place at DLAMP.
Monterey High School Teacher Robert Grebe announced his resignation at the end of the school year due to cost of living as well as benefits at MPUSD.
Ruthie Watts announced the NAACP Freedom Fund Life Membership Gala that will take place on May 26th at the Hyatt as well as the Coalition Of Scholarship Organization Annual Breakfast that will take place on June 9th at the Embassy Suites.
MBTA President Tom Grych expressed his support of Mr. Grebe's concerns as to why he is leaving the District and expressed MPUSD is losing great teachers.
Marina High student Lucia Brown expressed her concern regarding the hardship on students to have seven period days as it does not allow students to take many electives that will teach students life skills.
