Back to School Message: August 2023

Dear MPUSD Families:

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! I am particularly excited about this year as it is my 10th year serving as superintendent of the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. Together with your support, MPUSD has become a leader for its innovation and creativity. Not only are we engaging students in deep learning and preparing them to solve the challenges of the future, we are setting the bar high for how we support students, their families, and our teachers and staff.

Our theme this year is ‘Empowering Minds. Transforming Futures.’ and is inspired by the transformative power of education in empowering students. Our MPUSD team is ready and prepared to engage students in exceptional teaching and learning, as well as equip them with tools and strategies so they are empowered to succeed and achieve their dreams.

Many teachers and staff members spent countless hours this summer in professional learning and development that will carry into our classroom and schools. MPUSD prides itself on positive relationships, safety, belonging, and community for each and every student. This year, we will continue to offer district and school wide events and activities to engage and inform families. We will build on the connections we’ve made and continue to understand what our students and families need and want.

It has been an honor serving as your superintendent. I am truly inspired and humbled each and every day by our students, our families, and our teachers and staff.
