Administrative Assistant

Human Resources Department

MPUSD Human Resources Department Administrative Assistant Kim Lammie knows how important it is to support adults who support students because if you have adults who are happy and supported they will have a much better interaction with students.

“What I have found in working my time here at MPUSD is by taking care of the adults in HR that trickles down to taking care of our students," she said.

This October will mark nine years for Kim in HR at the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. She began substituting as an HR technician before landing her role as administrative assistant to the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. Prior to MPUSD, she lived on the East Coast for 18 years and worked in the fourth largest school district in Richmond, Virginia supporting students.

While many know that Human Resources hires and supports employees, Kim’s role is diverse and she touches so many things, including investigations, complaints, following process and procedures, and ensuring staff are taken care of and supported.

“A lot of times I am dealing with difficult situations. While it is challenging and can be difficult, it is also a process that the right adult is in front of the right kids," said Kim.

She also plays a critical role in labor relations and negotiations preparing for the process and working alongside to reach agreements with both the classified and certificated (teachers) representatives. Another important aspect of her job is recruitment and recruitment fairs.

Kim is inspired by her boss, the HR team, and supporting people.

“One of the things that inspires me is Dr. Nuñez, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. He has a love for the job, a devotion for the job and the people, and that makes it easy to come in and do some of this hard work. It is rewarding because at the end of the day we are making good decisions for kids,” she says.

In HR, Kim hears about difficult situations.

“People are going through hard times and to be able to walk that person through or knowing that there is someone at the other end of the phone who is going to help or who is going to make them feel better inspires me,” she says.

Kim is the proud mother of three adult children and three grandchildren. Outside of work, Kim enjoys crocheting and watching tennis.

“The perfect day for me is sitting in my chair crocheting and watching tennis. It doesn’t get any better than that,” she quips.
