Ever since he was in middle school, Seaside High School freshman Andy Aquino Bernardino wanted to be in leadership. He got his feet wet in 8th grade while at Seaside Middle School and liked it.

“I decided I want to do it here (at Seaside High) all four years," said Andy.

That’s quite a goal for this freshman who is just two months into 9th grade. Andy is enjoying Seaside High.

“All the people have been really welcoming. The classes are really nice, too,” he says.

The biggest adjustment for Andy has been coming onto a new campus, which is bigger. He quips, “There are a lot more people and you don’t really know your way around.”

Andy, however, doesn’t let that stop him from navigating Seaside High. He has classmates from Seaside Middle and he says that has helped.

Andy is currently enrolled in science, computer science, math 2, English, leadership, and JROTC. Leadership is his favorite class because he wants to be involved campuswide and he enjoys helping out.

He’s set a high bar for himself and wants to get involved in school as much as he can because he knows later he may not have as many opportunities. One of the clubs he hopes to join is Key Club so he can give back through community service.

When he is not at school, he enjoys hanging out with friends, relaxing at home in Seaside, riding his bike or going on walks.

One of the things he is most proud of is when he was in middle school, he got to know everyone. “I was friendly with a lot of people,” Andy says.

Andy’s advice to his peers, “Be yourself and try to communicate to others.”
