David Collyer: I Feel a Special Connection to the Campus and Community

Los Arboles Middle School
David Collyer, 7th grade teacher
I teach at Los Arboles Middle School because of the people who work here, both certificated and classified staff, and because of the students. Los Arboles is the middle school where I attended and I feel a special connection to the campus and the community. As someone who attended K-12 in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, the student population at the school reflects my own experiences while in school. I absolutely love the diverse population of students!

I went to school for a multiple subjects credential as I had planned on becoming an elementary school teacher, but when I was presented the opportunity to not only teach at my own middle school, but also teach 6th grade in the same classroom where I had my own 6th grade core classes, I immediately jumped on the chance.
Since then, the interactions and friendships that I have developed with the students and staff at Los Arboles Middle School would make it nearly impossible for me to ever leave the school district, let alone the school.
David Collyer teaches 7th grade math, science, and AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). He has been a teacher at MPUSD and Los Arboles Middle for four years. Prior to teaching, he held a few classified positions, including time as a substitute teacher. He completed his student teaching experience at MPUSD while in his credential program.
