At the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, we recognize that strong family engagement is essential to the educational success, health, and well-being of every student we serve. That’s why, during National Family Engagement Month in November, we celebrate and strengthen the connections between our schools, families, and the community.
Family engagement can look different for every family, and that’s the beauty of it. Some examples of family engagement includes:
- Attending Back to School Night, Open House, or a school play
- Joining a math or reading night
- Sharing coffee at a cafecito with the principal
- Taking a survey to share your voice
- Meeting with a teacher during conferences
- Joining a school or district committee meeting
- Messaging a teacher, staff member, or administrator
Every interaction matters. When families and schools connect, students thrive.
Building Meaningful Relationships
We believe that creating strong partnerships with parents and guardians lays a foundation for student success. Through our family and community engagement programs, we offer educational workshops and events designed to support families and enhance collaboration between home and school.
Our school community liaisons, community school coordinators, teachers, staff, and school leaders all contribute to these efforts, working closely with families and community partners to coordinate activities that encourage involvement.
Partnerships and Programs
MPUSD partners with organizations such as Ohana Center for Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health, Cara Y Corazón, Abriendo Puertas, Parent Institute for Quality Education, and Harmony at Home to empower families with tools and skills to support their children’s learning and development.
Welcoming Environments
Our schools are committed to creating warm, inclusive spaces for all families. From school tours and orientations to back-to-school nights, open houses, and family-friendly events, we ensure families feel connected to their child’s learning community. We also offer volunteer opportunities and provide support for families who want to be more deeply involved in their child’s education.
A Year-Round Commitment
Family engagement is not just a month-long celebration, it’s an ongoing commitment at MPUSD. This November, and every month, we encourage families to participate in at least one engagement activity at their child’s school. Your presence and your voice make a difference.
