COVID-19 Winter Break Travel Guidelines

December 16, 2021

MPUSD Families:

Winter Break is here and we know families are excited to celebrate and enjoy time with family. We know many will be traveling in and outside of California or the United States, and we want to encourage families to be aware of guidelines around travel.

California has no travel restrictions or requirements at this time. Whether your travel is domestic or international, we encourage families to follow the CDC guidelines for testing, masking, and quarantine. Highlights include:

  • Delay travel until you’re fully vaccinated.
  • If you’re not fully vaccinated, but choose to travel, get tested before and after.
  • No matter your vaccination status, wear a mask indoors while on public transportation or in a transportation hub. The State of California recently imposed a mask mandate in indoor public spaces and workplaces from December 15, 2021 through January 15, 2022, due to a recent increase in COVID cases.
  • Wearing a mask outdoors while traveling is no longer required, but still recommended for unvaccinated individuals.
  • Whether you’re vaccinated or not, get tested 3-5 days after returning to California.

Preschool through 12th grades students have no restrictions after traveling. Testing, however, is recommended on Day 5 after return from travel, and students/parents should monitor for any COVID-like symptoms for 14 days.

Testing: Home antigen tests approved by the FDA for emergency use are acceptable for Day 5 testing. You may also visit MPUSD’s COVID testing clinic at the Cabrillo Family Resource Center. Days of operation are Mondays-Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The center will be closed for a few days, including December 22-25 and December 31, for the Winter Break.
