The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District is pleased to welcome new and returning students and families to 2017-18 school year at the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. We hope you and your family had a wonderful and restful summer break.
As we begin our fourth year together, I call on students and staff alike to Dream Big Dare Greatly this year as we continue to build on our strong foundation that focuses on effective first instruction in every classroom and enhances positive school culture across the district. We have in place systems of support – both academic and social emotional – that will allow us to continue improving student learning and achievement. I am excited about the renewed and growing energy occurring districtwide.
This summer, we continued to develop the leadership capacity at all levels. Teachers and staff participated in various professional development opportunities throughout June and July, including Advanced Placement Summer Institute, Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) training, Unconscious Bias training, and our Back-to-School Kickoff, to name a few. We continue the rollout of our Reimagining Secondary Teaching and Learning Initiative, including staff training in International Baccalaureate, Project-Based Learning, NewTech Network and Professional Learning Communities.
To learn about the work we’ve engaged in to date or our strategic vision, please visit our website and refer to our Building a Culture of Excellenceor Engaging Students in Deeper Learning publications. These documents, which may also be found in your school office, frame the work we’re doing to engage students in deeper learning and prepare them to pursue college and career.
We are ready to Dream Big Dare Greatly this school year as we engage your student in deep and meaningful learning. Our committed team of teachers, staff, and administrators have an incredible year planned. My Cabinet team and I will be visiting school sites regularly throughout the school year. We look forward to making a personal connection with you and your student, and partnering with families and the community to ensure every school and every student succeeds.
If I can be of help to your family during the school year, please don’t hesitate to contact my office at 831.645.1200 or email to superintendententsmemo@mpusd.net.
Respectfully yours,
PK Diffenbaugh
