The football field at Seaside High School came alive on Friday, October 3, 2025, as students from across the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, the Special Olympics Northern California, and the Seaside Police Department gathered for the Special Olympics Soccer Competition.

The morning event brought together elementary student-athletes with exceptional needs and their unified partners—peers who play alongside them—for a celebration of inclusion, teamwork, and the joy of sports. With cheers from classmates, families, and staff echoing across the field, the competition featured soccer matches, skills challenges, and a spirited Parade of Athletes.

The event was hosted in partnership with Special Olympics Northern California, giving students an opportunity to train, compete, and lead together. Beyond the games, the competition served as a lesson in empathy, sportsmanship, and belonging.

Eight MPUSD schools participated: Crumpton Elementary, Del Rey Woods Elementary, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School of the Arts, La Mesa School, Marshall Elementary, Marina Vista Elementary Arts Academy, Olson Elementary, and Ord Terrace Elementary.

The event schedule included a Parade of Athletes, Opening Ceremonies, soccer matches, and skills stations.

This competition reflects MPUSD’s ongoing commitment to creating inclusive learning environments where students feel seen, supported, and celebrated.
