MONTEREY PENINSULA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE INTENT TO FILL BOARD VACANCY AND APPLICATION INFORMATION

Applications are requested from community members to fill the Board seat vacated by the resignation of Veronica Miramontes, Former Trustee Area 3, whose term expires in November 2024.

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older, and reside within Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, and be a registered voter. Interested persons are invited to submit an application addressed to Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, Attention: Janet Ash, Senior Executive Assistant to the Superintendent, 700 Pacific Street, Monterey, CA 93940 beginning Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

The application process includes the application for appointment (Application), a brief resume of the applicant’s background, and a statement explaining why the applicant is interested in becoming a member of the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District Board of Trustees. The Application can be obtained from the Office of the Superintendent located at 700 Pacific Street, Monterey, CA 93940 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., the District’s website, http://www.mpusd.net or by contacting Janet Ash, Senior Executive Assistant to the Superintendent at (831) 645-1204.

All applications must be on file in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District office no later than Friday, February 23, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. If you are unsure if you live within the boundaries of the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, Former Trustee Area 3, please refer to the map included with the application or call the Superintendent’s Office at (831) 645-1204, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Applicants will be interviewed publicly at the March 5, 2024 Special Board Meeting.

THE BOARD IS INTERESTED IN CANDIDATES WHO:

  • Are supportive of the District’s missions and goals;
  • Are committed to excellence in providing educational opportunities for students;
  • Will make decisions based on careful analysis of all data without regard to influence by special interest groups;
  • Will work in a mutually supportive way with other Board members, the Superintendent and staff;
  • Are willing to commit adequate time to Board meetings; Board development opportunities, and related activities;
  • Have a commitment to the school community as well as the general community, representing all constituents of the District;
  • Have demonstrated an interest in support for public education;
  • Demonstrate a background reflecting personal and professional integrity; and
  • Are committed and endorse the primary responsibility of a member in regards to policy making.
