LINK TO SURVEY (Information and link to take the survey coming soon via ParentSquare.)
Tuesday, October 22, 2024, is Federal Survey Day for our military-connected families in the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District.
Approximately 10% of our students have a parent or guardian who is a service member. By reporting their service in the military or their residence or employment on federal property, MPUSD receives additional funding from the federal government to serve those students.
Parents, guardians, and caregivers can make a difference by completing the Federal Survey Card, when it is sent electronically through ParentSquare on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. We encourage families to complete the Federal Survey Card by the following day, Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
By completing this simple online card, your child’s school and classroom will have the opportunity to receive additional needed supplies, equipment and services.
What do the survey cards determine?
The survey cards determine the number of federally-connected students in our public school system. Federally-connected students are defined as:
- Children whose parent(s) or legal guardian(s) reside and/or work on federal property
- Children whose parents reside in federal low-rent housing, not including, Section 8 housing
- Children whose parent(s) are a member of the uniformed services, but who reside off the military base, including children of foreign military officers.
Based on these criteria, data is collected from the survey cards and delivered to the federal Department of Education, which reimburses MPUSD in impact aid for educating federally-connected students. Impact aid is the only federal education program where the funds are sent directly to the school district.
Why should parents fill out the federal survey card?
Impact aid is used by the U.S. Department of Education in needed areas as determined by the locally-elected school board. Funds can be used for school programs, materials, equipment and supplies. Parents are asked to complete the Federal Survey Card to schools promptly. Non-response could result in the loss of millions of dollars in federal funds that benefit both our military and local communities. Every card that is not returned will result in lost revenues to MPUSD schools and classrooms.
