MPUSD trustees recognize September as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

Suicide Prevention Month
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, more people die by suicide every year in the United States than in a car accident.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among 10-14 year olds and the third leading cause of death among 15-24 year olds in the U.S. That's according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

This is preventable issue and the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District is committed to sharing information so students, teachers and staff have access to save a life.

An important update came in July when the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline changed the support phone number to dial to 988. This change was made to make it easier for people to remember when they need help or support. Click here for more details from SAMHSA.

MPUSD's Resolution on Suicide Prevention Awareness Month is available on our website, along with access to all of our previous resolutions.
