Unveils New School Campus in Ribbon Cutting Event

 

Seaside, CA - The Dual Language Academy of the Monterey Peninsula (grades transitional kindergarten - 8th) will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil its new campus that relocated to 1650 Sonoma Avenue in Seaside on Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. 

 

The community and media are invited to attend the ribbon cutting. There will be free food, activities, music and fun. 

 

Following formal remarks by Superintendent PK Diffenbaugh, Principal and Seaside City Council Member Rita Burks and Seaside Mayor Ian Oglesby, a ribbon will be cut, and tours of the school will be offered. Blue Zones will also be on hand to designate the school a Blue Zone approved school, the first school in Seaside to achieve this prestigious honor. 

 

School begins August 1, 2023, for the 2023-2024 school year and staff is looking forward to welcoming students and parents to a new enhanced campus. “This campus modernization is a dream come true for our school community,” said Principal Rita Burks. “Our students will finally have a school they call home right in their community. We look forward to celebrating this historic milestone for the Dual Language Academy.”

 

“The Dual Language Academy (DLAMP) is the only dual language school on the Monterey Peninsula,” said Superintendent PK Diffenbaugh. “Moving the school into a new modernized campus in the heart of Seaside will lower the barriers to access for families in the community and give them the quality facilities they deserve.” 

 

The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District has invested approximately $5.75 million to improve and enhance the school site campus, interior and exterior paint, outdoor learning with seat walls and shade structure, asphalt play area replacement, new basketball and tetherball courts, campus fencing, tack boards, white boards, casework and sinks, new flooring, ceiling tiles, lighting, electrical upgrades, new windows and roller shades, landscaping and irrigation. Multi-Use Room upgrades were also implemented and include flooring, paint, acoustic panels, heating and ventilation upgrades, windows, and pocket tables.

 

The investments were made as part of voter-approved school bond Measure I passed in 2018 by nearly 70%.
