MPUSD to Welcome Historically Black Colleges and Universities Caravan Tour

HBCU Tour to Make a Stop on the Central Coast; Students from MPUSD’s Three Comprehensive High Schools to Participate

Seaside, CA - The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District has partnered with the National College Resources Foundation & Black College Expo™ to provide access to high school students about the college opportunities that await them post high school. The Historically Black Colleges and Universities Caravan Tour will visit Seaside High School on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, from 12:20 - 2:20 p.m. This event is exclusive to MPUSD high school students, and students will be transported by bus from their respective high schools to Seaside High on the day of the event.

This is the first time the HBCU Caravan Tour has made a stop on the Central Coast. More than 22 HBCUs will be part of the tour. Students will have the opportunity to learn about scholarships and have their application fees waived, as well as receive on-the-spot acceptance the day of the event. (Students should bring 10 or more copies of their transcripts.)

“We are proud to offer these unique opportunities to our students,” said PK Diffenbaugh, Superintendent, Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. “Most of our students do not have the ability to visit campuses across the state, let alone the country, and our priority is to increase access so they can make informed decisions about their future.”

The National College Resources Foundation’s mission is to curtail the high school dropout rate and increase degree and/or certificate enrollment among underserved and underrepresented students who are at risk, come from low socioeconomically disadvantaged households, or are experiencing homelessness or are foster youth. Similarly, the Black College Expo™ supports underserved and underrepresented students and hosts college expos nationwide. The organization has reached more than 83,000 students annually through these expo tours.
