Marina, CA - Nearly 60 Olson Elementary School sixth grade students under the guidance of teachers Dr. Jamee Lynch-Moore and Jaime Quiros had the opportunity to meet and work with Mexican-American Multimedia Artist Sea Sevilla to design, draw and paint a large-scale mural on an outside wall entering the school as part of a schoolwide community project.

The school has invited the community for the ribbon-cutting and unveiling of the mural on Monday, November 28 at 1:30 p.m. at Olson Elementary School located at 261 Beach Road in Marina. Artist Sea Sevilla and representatives from the Art Council for Monterey County will be on hand for this event, as well.

“At Olson Elementary, we cultivate hearts and minds to build a better humanity,” said Lynch-Moore. “This project gave students a voice and allowed them to take ownership in a schoolwide activity.

Two mural options were developed, and students, staff and families voted with the selected art won by 56.4%. Over a six-week period, students engaged with Sevilla to produce the mural.

Sea Sevilla is a teaching artist on the Arts Council for Monterey County. She is widely known for painting murals around Monterey County with her artist group La Neta Murals. Her artist profile interview can be found HERE.
