Governor's Public Health Order: Vaccination

We want to make you aware of Governor Gavin Newsom’s announcement this morning implementing the first-in-the-nation measure to require teachers and school staff to get vaccinated or submit to regular COVID-19 testing. This public health order mandates all school staff to either show proof of full vaccination or be tested at least once per week. An overview of the order is highlighted in a news release.

This new policy for public school staff takes effect tomorrow - August 12, 2021 - and all schools must be in full compliance by October 15, 2021. 

In the coming days and weeks, we are analyzing the public health order to determine how to best address these new requirements, including a process to collect proof of vaccination from MPUSD employees who have received the vaccine, as well as a protocol to provide once a week testing for MPUSD employees who are not vaccinated. 

You can expect further communication that provides details about what staff needs to do to comply with this state mandate.

As a reminder, MPUSD is offering a vaccine clinic for anyone working on MPUSD campuses or departments (this includes subs, Alder residents, etc.) this afternoon - Wednesday, August 11 - from 1 - 4 p.m. at the District Services Center located at 540 Canyon Del Rey in Monterey.
