Staff Update #3 (March 11): Coronavirus Information

This email is being sent to MPUSD all staff. (Please print and post as not all employees have easy access to email.)

MPUSD All Staff,

Today, the World Health Organization officially declared COVID-19 / Coronavirus a pandemic. In our regular check in with the Monterey County Health Department, as of 5:17 p.m. today we do not have any confirmed cases in Monterey County. As more and more information is becoming available about the coronavirus, there have been many questions raised by MPUSD staff. For teachers, we have two more teaching days left, for others, we know that many continue to work during the two-week Spring Break.

You are likely hearing various reports in the news or social media about the coronavirus. It is important to access reliable resources, such as the Monterey County Health Department, the World Health Organization or the Centers for Disease Control to gather information.

MPUSD will also continue to provide regular communication to staff as it becomes available via email, ParentSquare, and our website. The district initiated a Coronavirus Task Force, and last night the Task Force presented an update to the Board of Education. The presentation may be found HERE.

We understand the work ethic of our employees and their commitment to serving students and supporting colleagues, as well as understand that some may not want to tap into their sick leave. In the interest of public health and safety, we want to reiterate that if you are sick, particularly with a fever, we highly recommend that you do not come to work.

Many have inquired about a 14-day self-quarantine, and whether or not they will be paid by MPUSD. We have developed an FAQ for your reference on various questions we have heard to date. You may find it HERE. This FAQ is just a start and is a “living” document. We will add additional questions and answers, as well as update it as new information becomes available. If you have a question, please feel free to email the Communications department at mmcfadden@mpusd.net.

Thank you for your calm during this highly anxious time.

Should you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask.
