Open Enrollment: Intradistrict Transfer Period

The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District's Open Enrollment Intradistrict Transfer period for the 2019-20 school year begins Wednesday, January 9, 2019 and applications will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 8, 2019. Application forms will be available at www.mpusd.net/transfers/, school sites, or the Student Transfer Office located at 700 Pacific Street in Monterey.

Open Enrollment means that families who reside permanently in the MPUSD boundaries may apply for a transfer to any MPUSD school where space is available. All students in grades transitional kindergarten through 12 are entitled to request a transfer. NOTE: Transfers are approved only if space is available at the requested school site.

IMPORTANT CAVEATS

  • Students currently on a transfer in grades transitional kindergarten through 11 will automatically be renewed for the 2019-20 school year. This means you DO NOT have to complete a new form. However, if you wish for your child to return to his or her school of residence (school closest to your home) you must simply notify the school and show proof of residency to attend that school. If you choose to go to a different school altogether, you must complete a new Open Enrollment application. This must be done during the Open Enrollment period.
  • Current 5th and 8th grade students will automatically roll over to the middle or high school in the learning community in which the student is currently attending. See example sheet. If you wish for your child to attend a different school, please complete an Open Enrollment form during the Open Enrollment period.
  • Intradistrict transfers to La Mesa Elementary and Marshall Elementary are not being accepted for the 2019-20 school year due to a high volume of incoming military students. Special circumstances may be considered if space is available (e.g., siblings, Department of Defense civilians, Porter Youth, or Child Development Center).

If you wish to apply for an Open Enrollment Intra-district transfer, complete an application which may be found online at www.mpusd.net/transfers/, school sites, or the Student Transfer Office. The form may be completed online, emailed, returned to your school of residence, or the Student Transfer Office located in Room 10 at 700 Pacific Street in Monterey by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2019.

If your request for Open Enrollment Intra-district Transfer is approved, you will be notified by letter no later than April 2019. Realize that since many of the district schools are already enrolled to or near capacity, your request may be denied, and your child will remain enrolled in his or her current school of residence.

This is the only time to request a transfer from one school to another school within the district for the upcoming 2019-20 school year.

Parents should be aware that transportation is not provided for students on intradistrict transfers, except as required by law. For questions, please contact your school’s principal or the Student Transfer Office at 831-392.3983.
