Seaside High School

Javier Delgadillo’s journey into the world of mathematics was ignited by his high school math teacher. “(Mr. Robin) showed me that you could make it fun and make it enjoyable for students. This is where I got my passion from. He made me pursue mathematics,” says Javier.

While he has been at Seaside High School for one year, Javier is no stranger to teaching mathematics. A graduate of California State University Stanislaus with a mathematics degree and a B clad to teach in Spanish, Javier taught mathematics in Modesto for nine years prior to relocating to the Central Coast with his wife to be closer to family.

Not only did a high school math teacher inspire him, but he had a middle school teacher that invested in him and made him see that he really had something in math and make something out of it. “I was going to be an engineer, but I didn’t want to sit behind a desk eight to nine hours a day. I like interacting with people, especially young people because it gives me energy.”

Javier’s teaching philosophy centers on building relationships with students and instilling self confidence in them, many of whom may approach math with trepidation due to past learning experiences. Drawing from his own upbringing in a single-parent household with five siblings, Javier emphasizes reliance and determination in pursuing one’s dreams.

“My hope is that even if I’ve only had you (student) for one year, I want them to understand that you’re my student for life … I want to help you accomplish those goals,” he says.

Beyond the classroom, Javier and his wife are very active in their church community exemplifying their service mindset.
