HR Tech II

Human Resources

Lilyanne Kelly comes from a long line of family members who attended the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. She attended Del Monte, Monte Vista, Walter Colton and Monterey High. When she graduated Monterey in 2012, she became the third generation in her family to earn a diploma from MHS.

“I’ve had a very good educational experience through MPUSD and it has shaped who I am now,” states Lilyanne.

Today, she proudly serves the district as a technician II in the Human Resources department. Lilyanne is new to HR having served just seven months in her role. Prior to transitioning to the District Office, she worked at Foothill Elementary School as a school office secretary for three and a half years before the school consolidated this year.

“Foothill Elementary was a wonderful experience and very humbling,” she says.

Lilyanne enjoyed working with kids, and credits former Foothill Principal Cathleen Main for teaching her all that she knows and helping her grow as a person.

Prior to joining the HR team, she used to believe that it was the place you go when you get in trouble, but she has quickly learned that the department is so much more than that. During her department’s summer retreat she discovered that HR really is part of the building blocks of our district.

“Every single person that gets hired goes through HR,” she beamed.

One of the areas that Lilyanne is passionate about is building relationships with substitutes.

“I’ve been very enthusiastic about our sub program and I try to make sure people are included in our district. I want to make them feel like they are part of our district because we can’t do our jobs without subs,” she says.

When at Foothill she worked hard to foster strong connections with her substitutes, including reaching out to them at the end of day asking them, “How did it go?”, “What could we have done better?”, and “Would you be interested in returning?” Because of the groundwork she laid, she had subs volunteering to come back and created a priority list.

Once she moved to the district office, many of those she established relationships with were excited to see her in the new role, and she says, “I am working really hard to foster those same kinds of relationships districtwide.”

She lights up when she talks about the HR team.

I feel lucky to be here. I feel lucky to have a job. My team waited for me to come here because I was very loyal to the staff and students at Foothill and wanted to see that through. I am very lucky that my team was willing to wait for me,” Lilyanne said.

Her team has been very welcoming and approachable.

“We all handle different things, but we are team oriented and want to make sure we all succeed,” she adds.

Lilyanne is a resident of Monterey and was married earlier this year. She has known her husband since they were babies.

“It’s very unique, very special. I feel very blessed to have him and his family as my family," said Lilyanne.

Outside of work she is honing her passion for baking, growing her decorating skills, reads and plays games.
