Ribbon Cutting Prior to Game

Marina, CA - The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District and Marina High School will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. on the new multi-use field and stadium at Marina High School located at 298 Patton Pkwy., Marina, CA 93933.

The ribbon cutting will take place prior to the first junior varsity and varsity football games against Yerba Buena High School from San Jose. Board of Education members, Superintendent PK Diffenbaugh, Principal Jose Quevedo, and Marina High School scholar athletes and staff will be present for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

“We are grateful to voters for believing in the vision,” said PK Diffenbaugh, Superintendent, Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. “The Marina community has waited patiently for a state-of-the-art stadium and field, and that wait is finally over. This project is more than an investment in facilities; it’s an investment in our scholar-athletes, our school pride, and the future of Marina High. We’re proud to deliver on our promise to this deserving community.”

“This is a proud moment for Marina High,” said Jose Quevedo, Principal, Marina High School. “Our new stadium and field represent more than just a place to play. They’re an extension of the classroom where students build character, learn teamwork, and take pride in their school. This project is a testament to what’s possible when a community comes together to support its youth.”

The project began in the spring of 2024 and was completed in July 2025. Football and flag football athletes were the first to participate in sports conditioning and practice in mid-July. On Thursday, August 28, 2025, the girls flag football team will play their first home game on the field followed by Friday, September 5, 2025, when the first evening football game will be played on the field.

Funded through Measure I (a $213 million dollar facilities bond) and approved by voters in June 2018, the state-of-the-art stadium and field project cost $12 million dollars, and includes:

  • Bleachers
  • Lighting

  • Sound booth system
  • Storage and concession plan
  • Improvements to baseball field
  • Student drop-off
  • Crosswalk

“This is a dream come true for our school and community,” said Juan Cisneros, Athletic Director, Marina High School. “There were times it felt out of reach, but today we’re standing on a field that represents years of hope, persistence, and belief. I’m incredibly grateful to our district leadership and to everyone who helped make this vision a reality for our student-athletes.”
