October: National Principals Month
October 1, 2024
Perhaps one of the most busiest and challenging jobs in a school district is a school principal. School principals wear many hats and serve many stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, classified staff members, district administration, and the community at large. There is never a dull moment nor down time for these talented individuals.
Every October, National Principals Month is an opportunity to acknowledge and praise the leadership of school principals.
The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District proudly celebrates its 19 principals who lead our 10 elementary schools, two transitional kindergarten - 8th grade schools, two middle schools, three comprehensive high schools, one alternative high school, one adult school, and two preschools.
In a 2021 report by The Wallace Foundation they state that the role of a principal goes above and beyond administrative duties. Their leadership has a significant impact on the school community. Alongside a student’s teacher, principals are the second most influential adult inside a school.
National Principals Month is celebrated and recognized by the American Federation of School Administrators, the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and the National Association of Secondary School principals.
