Student Transfers

All requests will be considered and families will be notified by mail at the end of April 2018 for the following school year. Forms may be obtained at your school site, the District Office at 700 Pacific Street - Room 10 in Monterey or online at www.mpusd.net. Again, forms were due Friday, February 2, 2018 to be considered for the upcoming 2018-19 school year.

The Monterey Peninsula Unified School District’s Governing Board desires to provide enrollment options that meet the diverse needs and interests of its students, which in turn support neighborhood school philosophies. School boundaries are established in an effort to balance enrollment throughout the school district, therefore students are assigned to a home school based on these established school boundaries. Students are expected to attend the school within their established attendance area. However, requests for students to attend a school outside of their resident school may be initiated by a parent, guardian, or eligible student 18 years of age or older. ALL TRANSFER REQUESTS MUST BE MADE DURING THE OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD (typically January) FOR THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR AND ARE CONTINGENT UPON SPACE AVAILABILITY.

Open Enrollment begins January 3, 2018 and runs through Friday, February 2, 2018. This is the only time to request a transfer from one school to another school within the district for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year. This message is long and provides detail if you are interested in a transfer within the district.

If you wish to request a transfer you must complete a request form no later than Friday, February 2. Students currently on a transfer are automatically renewed and you do not have to do anything to keep your student at the school he/she is currently attending. Students entering 6th or 9th grade (unless you are at the Dual Language Academy of the Monterey Peninsula) will automatically roll over to the middle or high school in the learning community in which the student is currently attending. For example, if your child attends Los Arboles Middle School, your student will be rolled over to Marina High School, even if you do not reside in Marina. A letter with specific detail was mailed home in December 2017 to those currently on a transfer.

If you wish your student to return to the school nearest your residency, please immediately notify your school of residence so the district may plan accordingly. For example, if your student attends Los Arboles Middle School and you live in Monterey and want your student to attend Monterey High School, you must go to Monterey High and enroll your student with a proof of residency showing you reside in Monterey.
