MPUSD Workforce Housing

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

MPUSD has launched its new workforce housing community at 2300 Garden Road in Monterey, designed to support and retain our dedicated employees by providing affordable housing opportunities.

 

The Board of Education approved the project in late September, and applications opened on October 1, 2025, with move-ins beginning in December 2025.

 

The community will offer below-market rental rates, comparable to very low income levels for Monterey County, with sample rates starting around $1,265 for studios and $1,628 for two-bedroom units. Eligible applicants include certificated and classified employees working at least 0.8 FTE (management excluded).

 

Leases may extend up to five years with a possible two-year renewal, and units will be assigned through a lottery system that balances 70% certificated and 30% classified staff.
