How Independent Study Works

Program Overview

Independent Study is an optional educational alternative available to students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Students work independently and in cohorts with the support and direction of an experienced credentialed teacher. While independent study uses the district adopted curriculum and the district graduation requirements, it offers flexibility to meet individual student needs, interests and learning style.

Students are required to attend from five to twenty hours weekly depending on the course load that they are taking. Elementary and Middle school Students follow the equivalent pacing to the district schools in all courses. High School students take a minimum of 3 academic subjects plus electives each semester.
